Elvis Presley's Mercedes - Benz Limo Sold!

Image
A Mercedes-Benz, once owned by ‘the King of Rock and Roll’ Elvis Presley, was sold by Bonhams at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey for $ 130,000. Restored to a very high standard, this rare piece of Elvis Presley history attracted a great deal of interest and in the end it went to Germany. Two other notable cars at this sale were a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’ Coupe which sold for £441,500, and a magnificent 1913 Rolls-Royce 45/59hp Silver Ghost Open Drive Limousine that went for £419,500. Motorcars spanning all periods, types and marques went under the hammer, including a Ferrari 550 GTZ, which was one of only five examples of the car bodied by the famous Italian carrozzeria Zagato, and the only right hand drive. This car sold for £353,500. Elvis’s 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Saloon Limousine in powder blue was one of only a handful of cars that the singer registered himself, and one of two 600 Mercedes that he owned. Presley owned the car for two years before he gave it to one of h

Million Dollar Quartet Day In The Big Apple!

On Saturday, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declared December 4, 2010 "MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Day" in honor of the 54th anniversary of the real life jam session which brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins together a legendary jam session. The mayoral proclamation was read from the stage of the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street) by Katherine Oliver, the commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. Below is an excerpt from the proclamation: The City of New York is proud to join MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET in celebrating the anniversary of the meeting of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, upon which this musical is based... Tonight's special celebratory performance is a testament to the continuing relevance and vitality of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, and the overwhelming impact they had on the music community over the cou

Elvis fan Killed By Spiked Drink

I've seen some pretty bad behavior amongst Elvis fans towards each other but this one takes the cake! An Elvis Presley fan was killed by a friend who spiked his drink with drugs after he refused to stop singing. Father-of-five Nilesh Devsee was found by friends under a table in his kitchen the morning after a party at his Wellingborough home in September this year. At Northampton Crown Court on Friday, Patrick Kenrick, of Bath Road, Kettering, was jailed ADVERTISEMENTfor three-and-a-half years after admitting the manslaughter of Mr Devsee by putting Subutex – a drug used to block the effects of heroin – in a pint of beer before encouraging him to 'down' the pint. An argument broke out between the pair after Mr Devsee, 51, would not stop singing along to Elvis tracks so Kenrick, 36, could watch television. Matthew Lowe, prosecuting, said: "During the evening, through drink, friction developed between the defendant and Mr Devsee. The defendant was singing to the st

Elvis Guru Dies

American singer-actor and cultural icon Elvis Presley's guru Sri Daya Mata, 96, has died in Los Angeles (USA) area. According to reports, Elvis met Daya Mata, president and sanghamata of worldwide Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) headquartered in Los Angeles, in 1960s, and then kept connection with her throughout the rest of his life, often calling and meeting her for guidance/advice. Reports suggest that Elvis meditated with Daya Mata, read her book " Only Love", enjoyed spending time with her, had a feeling of peace in her presence, used to call her Ma (short for mother), turned to her for spiritual guidance frequently, remarked that she was like a saint, had high respect for her and listened to her, queried her for a short-cut for initiation into Kriya Yoga, and asked her questions like: Why did God make me Elvis Presley. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was with a great sense of loss that we bid good-bye to
