Message From Carole Regarding Myrna Smith

Image
Dear All: Several fans have forwarded me an Email from Myrna's son Martin (& his wife Candy), regarding a January 29, 2011 memorial service for Myrna & thanking fans for helping Myrna. In that Email, they mention me by name & say I have been a valuable friend of the family. I want to make sure you all know I am not involved with them or the memorial. While I think it is nice to have a memorial, it would have meant more if Myrna's relatives had done something while she was alive. The fans did it all. Even after Myrna passed away, there was a standoff between her son & brother which delayed the cremation, but it finally went forward & Myrna's brother took her ashes home. The account at Premier America Credit Union has been closed. The total put into the account was $6,283.60 and the total paid out was $6,294.63 ($5,184.00 to Canyon Oaks for Myrna's care & $1,110.63 to The Alpha Society for cremation, etc.). I think it is amazing that we came w...

Elvis Is Back - Legacy Edition

Legacy Recordings -- Two words exploded worldwide on December 19, 1957  "Elvis Drafted!"  but three words resounded across the universe even more explosively on March 3, 1960: "Elvis Is Back!"  The album that Elvis Presley began recording in Nashville on March 20th, and finished in the legendary overnight session of April 3-4th, is widely regarded as possibly the best album he ever made.  A half-century later, Elvis Is Back is now coupled with 1961's Something For Everybody, an album he recorded back in Nashville one year later.  Along with one dozen hit single sides recorded (also in Nashville) and charted over roughly the same period of time, the deluxe Elvis Is Back: Legacy Edition will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting March 1, 2011, through RCA/Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Elvis Is Back: Legacy Edition follows the template of the recent RCA/Legacy releases, From Elvis In Memphis: Legacy Edition and On Stag...

Updated - Unseen Photos Of Elvis In Detroit

Image
Elvis Presley meets with five winners of an essay contest on May 25, 1956. Judy Fesenmyer (now Hayes), then 16, of Denby High is second from left. Directly to the right of Elvis is Diana DiGregorio, also 16, a student at St. David’s, and Joann Menegaz (now Borri),14, of Regina High. Do you recognize the others? (Photos courtesy of MRPI Collection) We now know the names of more of the lucky Detroiters who met -- and kissed -- Elvis Presley at the Fox Theatre during his first engagement thereon May 25, 1956. Dawn Buchanan recognized her mother, Delores Pipski, as the Kim Novak lookalike blond who Elvis has his arm around in the cocktail party photo. Buchanan alerted her mother, and both called The Detroit News. Pipski was Delores Miklas then, a record librarian at WWJ Radio, which was downtown then. She was often invited to backstage parties by her bosses, and as an Elvis fan was especially happy to go to a party for him at the Fox. She worked a whole day at WWJ, then changed in...

Money This is actually the "Duets" LP, released in December 1978, minus 2 tracks, "Am I To Be The One" & "Sail Away." It didn't chart on Billboard. This LP certainly generated controversy, as it contains Orion, aka Jimmy Ellis, who overdubbed vocals on all these original early '60s cuts Jerry did for Sun sometime in 1978. Sun Records owner Shelby Singleton had him don a mask about a year after Elvis died, causing some people to think he was actually Elvis. His voice also sounded remarkably like Elvis. Two singles from this LP, with Orion's overdubbed 1978 vocals, actually charted on the country c...
