The Mid South Food Bank In Memphis Needs Our Help!

The main guest expected at nearly every dinner table on Thanksgiving may not arrive in time for hundreds of needy families. Not even one turkey has been donated so far to the Mid-South Food Bank.
“I can’t tell you why,” said president and CEO Susan Sanford. The non-profit had hundreds of turkeys to supply the main course for holiday meals by this time last year, she said.
The Mid-South Food Bank serves 250 organizations in 31 counties in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. Anyone wanting to donate can drop by the organization’s Memphis office Mondays-Thursdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or Fridays from 8 a.m.-noon at 239 S. Dudley St., south of Union Ave. or call 527-0841.
BIM NOTE: No family should go without a holiday meal, so this Thanksgiving as we give thanks for all we have, let's give to those who could use alittle help this year. No donation is too small or large! Every dollar counts!

Myrna Smith Update From Carole Drexler

I am sad to report that Myrna continues to be very weak, her health is not good, & she sleeps most of the time.  She is still getting dialysis three times a week.  Myrna's friend Diane & I read her every card & note sent (address for cards is below).  Please keep Myrna in your prayers.  And please know that Myrna really appreciates all of the love, prayers & help you so generously send her way & she loves you for it.

As you know, we paid $5,184.00 (donated by the fans) to Canyon Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center which was Myrna's share of the money owed for her stay there from June 2010 through 10/31/10.  Canyon Oaks had notified Social Security that Myrna is now living there & her monthly SS payment should be paid directly to Canyon Oaks.  Myrna's SS payment was supposed to take care of her monthly responsibility of $1,296 to Canyon Oaks starting 11/1/10.  On Fri., I found out that SS had sent Myrna's payment to her brother's bank account & he immediately withdrew it.  Therefore, Myrna owes $1,296 to Canyon Oaks for November.  Myrna's brother, John Utley, has been taking Myrna's SS payment & using it to pay the mortgage on her house where he lives.  I thought long & hard before telling you this, but I think you need to know.

To date, John has not paid any of Myrna's bills - not one cent!  Yet John continues to live in Myrna's house, he has two nice cars he drives, he plays tennis & goes out to karaoke bars.  John has money to spend on himself but will not do anything to help Myrna.

If anyone wants it, here's the address & phone for Myrna's brother:
John Utley
20216 Elkwood Street
Winnetka, CA 91306
Phone: 818-998-2365
The phone # is his home phone, but he has it set to go to fax after a few rings & he rarely answers the phone.

Graceland Will Flip The Switch On Nov 19th!

Elvis Presley's Graceland in Memphis, TN will officially begin the holiday season by "flipping the switch" for the annual lighting celebration on this Friday, November 19, with the traditional lights and decorations on the 13.8 acre mansion property. The extensive display includes hundreds of blue lights along the driveway, a life-size Nativity scene, Santa and his sleigh and much more originally displayed at Graceland by Elvis and the Presley family.
The event this year will also support the American Red Cross, with the Bloodmobile on site as part of an awareness campaign to encourage the public to donate blood during the holidays, a historically critical time for blood inventory. During his lifetime, Elvis supported the Red Cross and frequently donated blood while in the Army.
Highlighting the 2010 lighting ceremony will be Lee DeWyze, winner of the ninth season of American Idol, who will join with a Red Cross blood recipient and "flip the switch" to officially light the Graceland property and kick off the holiday festivities.
The interiors of Graceland mansion will also be decked in Elvis' Christmas decor. Included will be his traditional red velvet drapes as well as Presley family Christmas artifacts on display around several trees throughout the home.
Santa will be available for pictures with the kids throughout the evening's festivities. The public is welcome to attend the free lighting event. Regular paid tours of Graceland will operate the day of the lighting ceremony from 10 AM to 6 PM. Others from around the world can enjoy the evening live via the "GracelandCam(TM)" at http://www.elvis.com/.
In the spirit of Elvis Presley's tradition of generosity, Graceland is also kicking off the "Give Like the King" campaign for Presley Place. Everyone who makes at least a $15.00 donation to the Graceland Poinsettia Campaign to raise money for Presley Place will receive his/her name posted on the Graceland online donors list and a beautiful Graceland holiday postcard mailed to their home of the living room at Graceland. Fans can donate now online through the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation page. Starting on the 19th, visitors to Graceland will also have the opportunity to give by purchasing a $1 gold record or $5 platinum record at the Graceland ticket window or in the Graceland gift shops. Visitors can sign the records, which will be displayed throughout the property.
Presley Place, part of the MIFA Housing Opportunities program, is a 12-unit housing community that shelters homeless families until they can make it on their own. Since it opened in the summer of 2001, Presley Place has been home to 190 adults and more than 300 children.
