On Friday night, Joel took the stage of FedExForum — playing his first local gig since 2001 — and the audience could not have been more emphatic or adoring, as the he sang, played and charmed his way through a two-hour-plus, 27-song concert. The show had the added distinction of breaking the Forum's attendance record, previously held by Bon Jovi. Joel — clad in a dark suit and sitting at a piano that rotated throughout the night — led an energetic nine-piece band through a set that was heavy on hits, but which also dug into the lesser-known corners of his catalog, and included a number of Memphis-centric digressions. "Here I was playing in Memphis, in Elvis' hometown," continued Joel, reminiscing, as he played a snatch of the King's "Suspicious Minds," while donning pair of gold Elvis sunglasses and sideburns. Joseph Sher, a 100-year-old survivor whose family was murdered in Treblinka, immigrated to the US after WWII, where he became tailor to the stars.Sher's parents and three sisters were murdered at the Treblinka extermination camp during World War II, while he and his two brothers survived, and moved to the US at the end of the war. He was born in Krzepice, a town in southern Poland, and was sent from one labor camp to the next during the war. Joseph Sher, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor who went on to become a famous tailor and even made outfits for Elvis Presley, passed away earlier this week, media in Louisiana reported on Friday. His estate is currently battling a subsidiary of Sony Music in Germany over foreign royalties . This month, the 4-year-old legal battle spilled into a New York federal court as Elvis Presley Enterprises contends with Sony's corporate structure and intercompany licensing agreements and looks to obtain more documentation on how Presley's musical works have been exploited. In 1974, Presley entered into a buyout agreement with RCA , terminating all previous agreements between the musician and the record company . As part of that deal, Presley got $2.8 million, and his manager "Colonel" Tom Parker got $2.6 million. A husband is facing life in jail for battering his wife to death with a hammer after she sold his ticket to see an Elvis tribute band. Paul Abbott, 56, lashed out at his 54-year-old wife Jacqueline in December last year after finding out that she had sold his concert ticket on eBay. The grandmother, who had two sons, was left with catastrophic head injuries and was pronounced dead at their marital home in Netherton, West Midlands. The pair were described by neighbours as being 'Elvis mad' and regularly went to conventions and tribute acts together. Mrs Abbott also visited Graceland, a mecca for Elvis fans, and regularly posted photographs to Facebook in which she posed with different Elvis impersonators . UPDATE Electrical Fire at Westgate Las Vegas Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after an electrical fire at the Westgate in May. The fire started at 9:52 p.m. in an electrical room within the 12th floor of the hotel, Clark County Fire Department deputy chief Roy Session said. Five engines, two ladder trucks, two rescues and two battalion chiefs initially responded to the hotel at 3000 Paradise Road, Session said. The fire was contained within the electrical room and quickly extinguished. But even though the blaze was out, smoke had spread throughout the 12th floor. Crews used electrical fans to quickly clear the floor of lingering smoke, and one maintenance worker and one hotel guest were treated for smoke inhalation on scene but not taken to a hospital, Session said. Josh Brolin , whose film credits include No Country for Old Men and Milk , for which he scored an Academy Award nomination, revealed he will star as George Jones during an interview with Conan O'Brien . Brolin also said that Jessica Chastain ( The Help, Zero Dark Thirty ) will play Tammy Wynette , Jones's former wife and duet partner. Elvis Presley tried to have a threesome with singers Petula Clark and the late Karen Carpenter but instead sent them running for the door.
