Gary Collins Is A WANTED Man!

Gary Collins (husband to Elvis co-star Mary Ann Mobley in the film Harum Scarum) is in a heap of T-R-O-U-B-L-E -- there's a warrant out for his arrest in the wake of his latest vehicular misstep in Mississippi ... and prosecutors are now gunning to revoke his probation. On November 4, Collins was supposed to show up in court in L.A. for a probation progress report in connection with his 2007 DUI.  According to court records -- he failed to appear, so the judge issued a $100,000 arrest warrant. Ironically, had Collins shown up in court on November 4 for his progress report, the L.A. judge would have terminated his probation. Collins is a 2-time DUI offender.  As for his most recent run-in with the law, one of the passengers in the car he allegedly hit in Mississippi says he smelled alcohol on Collins' breath, however, cops only charged him with hit and run.  That case is pending. Rick Schmidt, Supervisor for the Van Nuys Branch of the City Attorney's Office, tells TMZ

Elvis Inspired Tom Jones Gospel Album

Tom Jones has said that his latest album ‘Praise and Blame’ is a tribute to Elvis Presley. According to MSN, Jones said “[Elvis and I] would stay up all night talking about music. He was surprised I knew gospel songs and wanted to know when I’d record a gospel album. I said I would and this is it.” Jones made a name for himself singing pop music. Having recorded hits such as ‘It’s Not Unusual’, ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ and ‘The Green Green Grass Of Home’, Jones decided to go to to gospel music at the age of 70 to mixed reviews. ‘Praise and Blame’ was produced by Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon, Crowded House) and features a huge list of amazing musicians including Booker T. Jones and Gillian Welch.

Viva Elvis

"Viva Elvis" is the latest in a long list of Elvis Presley hits. The album comes eight months after the opening of Cirque De Soleil's "Viva Elvis" show at the Aria Resort in Las Vegas. "The album is not a cast album," said the album's executive producer Adam Block, of Sony Music Entertainment. "It's not a remix album. It is an Elvis Presley album as though he made it this year with an ear and an eye for what's happening today." The album covers the entire span of Presley's career. "Technically, now we can hear Elvis' performances cleaner and clearer," said Rob Santos, vice-president of A&R at Sony Music Entertainment. "You can hear his voice in a way you never have before." You can also see his influence like never before. The songs are the same ones used in "Viva Elvis" the show. The performers and musicians say the show was a labor of love and they were inspired by the King

Lisa Marie Becomes Charity Patron

Image
Lisa Marie has vowed to become a patron of a charity after being impressed by its work at a fundraising ball. Lisa Marie Presley was one of the celebrity guests at the Snowball held at the Prince Regent in Chigwell on Saturday in aid of Hainault-based charity The Dream Factory. Actors Ray Winstone and Sid Owen, who are both patrons of the charity, and Amanda Redmond were also among guests at the star-studded event, which raised £59,000 towards granting the wishes of terminally-ill children and those with life-threatening illnesses or disabilities. Organiser Avril Mills said: “We have granted 83 dreams in under three years, so the money is going to go towards a lot more dreams. It costs between £500 and £5,000 for a dream. “Lisa Marie Presley was very nice and she now wants to become a patron of the charity. “We talked about the charity and she brought a big framed picture of Elvis, which she got flown over for The Dream Factory from Graceland, and that raised £7,000.” More th

RIP Philly Spectrum!

R.I.P. Spectrum - Beloved stadium and old friend, 1967-2010 It may be difficult for many people in the Philadelphia/New Jersey/Delaware Valley area to truly and fully connect with what the Spectrum has meant to the area over the last 43 years. When it opened in the Fall of 1967, it was a 17,000-seat, state-of-the-art marvel. It was palace and it was a fortress. It was not only the new home of the NHL expansion team, the Philadelphia Flyers; the Spectrum hosted concerts, NBA basketball for the 76ers, the circus, Icecapades, professional boxing and wrestling and more. It saw six Stanley Cup Finals, including the Flyers hoisting their first Cup, as well as four NBA finals. It saw greats like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and repeated visits from local favorites Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. "When I was just 10 yrs. old I went to the Elvis concert in May of 1977 at the Philadelphia Spectrum with a friend also 10 at the time. Acting our age, we snuck very close to the stage

Feds Crack Down on Lead in Glasses Vandor, a 53-year-old private company that merchandises products with a pop-culture tie-in, is at the center of a federal probe into drinking glasses that may be contaminated with lead. Tests commissioned by the Associated Press found high levels of lead in glasses featuring characters such as Wonder Woman and Superman. The glasses, which were made in China, were sold online by Warner Bros. Vandor—which imported the products featuring images of Star Wars, Elvis Presley, The Wizard of Oz, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, Barbie, DC Comics, and more —said the glasses were meant for adult collectors. But the U.S. Consumer Protection Agency didn't buy that argument and today announced it is conducting its own testing, according to spokesman Scott Wolfson. Vandor, founded in 1957, is based in Salt Lake City but operates in China, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. It's a reminder that companies that do business abroad are held accountable to U.S. safe

Judge Okays Bankruptcy For Sillerman's Planned Elvis Hotel & Casino In Vegas

Instead of an Elvis Presley-themed hotel-casino, land across the street from CityCenter on the Las Vegas Strip will continue to be occupied by small retailers and restaurants. That's the bottom line in a bankruptcy reorganization plan involving more than half a billion dollars in debt. The reorganization plan received final approval this week for the company controlling the 17.72 contiguous acres of land at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue. Las Vegas Bankruptcy Judge Bruce Markell gave final approval to the latest revision of the plan in which the land's owner, FX Luxury Las Vegas I LLC, will see its interest in the property wiped out but will have an option to re-invest in the property by buying a 5 percent stake in the successor company. FX Luxury is controlled by American Idol TV show owner Robert F.X. Sillerman and co-investors. When their plans for an Elvis Presley-themed resort for the property fell through, FX Luxury defaulted on its mort

Meet Leila Hauseman - An Ultimate Elvis Fan! (Our New Weekly Feature)

Image
Leila First, I want to thank Megan for asking me to be interviewed. I am honored! 1. When did you first become an Elvis fan? Tell us about that. I was seven in  1956 when I first heard Elvis. I only heard him on the radio and fell for him. I'm a fan for life. 2. What was the first record and/or song you bought or heard? I was too young to buy my own records. My dear parents bought my HEARTBREAK HOTEL. I still have my 45'S. I treasure them to this day. 3. How was it being an Elvis fan as a teen? Best times of my young life. Most all girlfriends I had loved Elvis. We shared his movies & records together. As a girl scout when we earned money for our kitty, we had a choice of naming him King Kong or Elvis. Needless to say Elvis won Big! Being a teen and being an Elvis fan was the best! 4. Tell us about you, where you grew up, your other interests & hobbies etc. I was born in Bemidji, Minnesota. Lived on my Daddy's farm til I was two or so. Moved t

Fort Chafee Nominated For National Register of Historic Places

Image
The building at Chaffee Crossing where Elvis Presley, then an Army inductee, received his first military haircut is being considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Designated Building 803 on old Fort Chaffee grounds, the building is among 12 sites that will be considered when the State Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program meets Dec. 1 in Little Rock. The building is home to the Chaffee Barbershop Museum, an attraction that commemorates not only the 1958 Presley haircut, but other historical events at the Army facility. The museum is restored to its appearance at the time of the haircut. Carolyn Joyce with the Fort Smith Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the museum, opened in 2008, features photographs and memorabilia highlighting Chaffee's military mission as a World War II training facility, its use as an internment camp for German prisoners of war, its mission as a settlement camp for Vietnamese refugees in the 1970s and Cu

New Hard Rock Cafe In Waikiki

Jack Lord’s badge from the old Hawaii Five-O is moving to Waikiki, but most of the rock and pop culture memorabilia from Honolulu’s Hard Rock Cafe won’t make the transition to the new 13,000-square-foot restaurant and retail store that’s opening at the end of this month. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the new Hard Rock Cafe on Beach Walk Street, just off the main drag Kalakaua Avenue, as it aims to open by the end of next week. The actual grand opening will take place early next year, possibly February, and will feature a major recording act, and perhaps some local ones, too, according to General Manager Barry Cales, who recently moved over from the Maui Hard Rock Cafe in anticipation of the Waikiki store opening. The old Hard Rock Cafe restaurant, at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kalakaua, will serve its last burger today, although the retail side, the Rock Shop, will stay open until the new place opens. The new 250-seat restaurant has been the works for at l

Glee Now Second To Elvis

Another week, another musical milestone for the cast of Glee. The Fox program's rendition of "Teenage Dream," debuted atop the digital track sales chart, selling 214,000 copies in its first week, Fox and Columbia Records announced Thursday.  It's the first time a Glee song has reached No. 1. ("Don't Stop Believing" peaked at No. 2 in May 2009.) Gwyneth Paltrow takes on Cee-Lo's "Forget You" in Glee. The success of "Teenage Dream" boosted the Glee cast past James Brown for second most entries on the Billboard Hot 100. The news comes just a month after the cast passed the Beatles to take the No. 3 all-time spot. Glee is now second only to Elvis Presley. So far, Glee has sold 17 million digital downloads and 6.5 million albums worldwide. Glee: The Music, Volume 1 has been certified platinum with more than 1 million units sold and volumes 2 and 3 have each moved more than 500,000 units. Glee has two more albums hitting the shelves

Wayne Newton To Open Home As Graceland West?

Image
Attention Fellow Wayniacs! Wayne Newton's Las Vegas estate is a lavish wonderland complete with South African penguins, sweeping crystal staircases and a memorabilia collection to make a celebrity junkie salivate: a Frank Sinatra champagne glass, Nat King Cole's watch, Steve McQueen's Rolls-Royce and a Johnny Cash guitar. The estate is so resplendent, Newton said, that he plans to open his gated home to the public and turn it into a tourist attraction. The project some have dubbed "Graceland West" won initial approval from a local government board Wednesday, paving the way for Newton to open his tours in late 2011 as planned. The attraction has caused friction between the entertainer and neighbors opposed to noisy tour buses, unyielding traffic and inane gift shops flooding their affluent neighborhood of ranches and mansions just six miles from the Las Vegas Strip. At the Clark County Commission meeting Wednesday, critics went on for more than three hours, b

A military band jacket worn by John Lennon, X-rays of Albert Einstein's head and a costume made for Michael Jackson's pet chimp Bubbles are among more than 650 lots of pop culture memorabilia up for auction in Beverly Hills next month. The Icons and Idols sale on December 3 and 4. will also include what organizer Julien's Auctions says is the most extensive collection of Lennon and Beatles memorabilia ever to come to public auction. A white and gold braided jacket worn by Lennon in 1966 for a Life magazine photo shoot is expected to fetch up to $200,000. The jacket echoes the style worn the following year by all four Beatles on the cover of their "Sgt. Pepper's" album. "It is rare that an article of clothing worn by John Lennon comes up for auction," auctioneer Darren Julien told Reuters. He said a white suit worn by Lennon on the 1969 "Abbey Road" album cover sold for $120,000 in 2005. Other Lennon items include self-portraits, a colla
