Niel Diamond Would Like Elvis To Induct Him Into The Rock Hall
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2011 is playing in the key of D. Popmeister Neil Diamond, New Orleans singer-pianist Dr. John and girl-group legend Darlene Love are all on the list, along with shock-rocker Alice Cooper and bohotroubadour Tom Waits.
"I'd like Elvis Presley (to induct me), but he's not available," the 69-year-old Diamond joked to QMI shortly after being nominated in the fall. "I think it's great to be recognized."
Cooper told Rolling Stone he plans to reunite the surviving members of his '70s band to perform at the official ceremonies in New York City in March. Diamond was quoted saying he will shuffle some dates on his Australian tour to attend.
Rockers who might not be in the house include Bon Jovi, Beastie Boys, Donovan, Chic, LL Cool J and Donna Summer. They were also on the ballot -along with late greats such as Laura Nyro, Joe Tex and Chuck Willis -but didn't make the cut. Artists are eligible 25 years after their first release.
This year's announcement was something of an anticlimax, with an American music-industry website reporting the inductees earlier this week.
