Longtime Elvis collector & friend, Tom Salva has lost his mom this week. Tom is a well respected collector who always makes people laugh with his outgoing personality. Tom is a loyal friend and dedicated family man. Tom's mom & dad were devoted to their family & instilled that in Tom & his family. We are asking that you keep Tom and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mary (Bates) Salva, 83, passed away on October 8, 2013 at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Mary was born September 21, 1930 in Saint Peter's Hospital and spent her entire life in New Brunswick and North Brunswick. She enjoyed spending her summers, with her family, at their house in Midway Beach.

Mary graduated from New Brunswick High School. After graduating, she went to work for Bell Telephone as an operator. Mary married Al Salva, her husband of  58 years, and became a housewife and mother. Her four children were her greatest pride and joy!

Mary had a great love for politics and was always very involved. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, New Brunswick, as a child and most of her adult life. However, in her final years, she was a parishioner at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C Church in New Brunswick. Mary was a faithful catholic with a great devotion to the Blessed Mother.

The last eight months of her life were spent at the Parker Home on River Road in Piscataway, due to her battle with dementia. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Salva; a son Stephen; her mother and father William and Catherine Bates; brothers William and Thomas Bates; and sisters Rose Bates, Theresa Auerbach, and Margaret DeMark. She is survived by son Tom of North Brunswick, daughter-in-law Carol and grandson Dillon Salva; son Alan of Jackson and granddaughters Meagan, Jaime Sue, Brittani and Savanna Salva; daughter Susan of North Brunswick, son-in-law Larry and grandchildren Lauren, Casey and Brandon Baldini; son David of Monroe Township;, daughter-in-law Yvette and granddaughter MaryRose; and great grandson Tyler Nerges. Mary was also blessed with several nieces and nephews and her devoted dog CoCo. She leaves behind many lifelong friends who continued visiting her in her final days. Mary was a true believer in family and tradition and would have family dinners every Sunday at her home on Patton Street attended by all the children and grandchildren. There was no greater love than the love Mary had for her family.

Funeral services will be 9:15 AM Friday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Cremation will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5 PM to 8 PM only.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365.
