Jerry Schilling talks about Elvis meeting Nixon (VIDEO) and my final thoughts - SHAME!
Here's George Klein interviewing Jerry Schilling on GK's Memphis Sounds tv show in Memphis, TN from 2009. About a minute and twenty seconds in, Jerry tells the story of Elvis meeting Nixon. It's sweet and passionate not comical. Jerry of all people could make a great historically important, serious and passionate movie about Elvis instead of satire.
This meeting was so important to Elvis and I wish THAT was portrayed in movies and the media. Instead of making Elvis THE joke, Elvis' humor could have been featured. They could have had the audience laughing WITH Elvis and NOT AT HIM! We all have heard about Elvis' great sense of humor. It could have been done. Younger generations could have walked out of the theater knowing that Elvis Presley was THE COOLEST! He was not just A Rock Star, he was THE KING of Rock N Roll not a wimpy buffoon.
Elvis isn't seen as a real person anymore. With EPE so focused on their hotel, Elvis is just the Mickey Mouse mascot of their resort. We fans who have been lucky enough to have been a part of the Elvis World since the 80's and before, we have seen the best days. I feel sorry for the younger fans. And this movie won't help bring in more fans.
I received so many emails this weekend from fans giving me more details and weighing in on this subject. And I thank you all for your support. It's all about Elvis and protecting his image. Yes, the movie had a great cast. But again, that doesn't make a great movie as the box office numbers proved! We fans have to stop buying into everything Elvis' name and image is slapped on! Elvis fans are THE most loyal fans in the world and that makes him an easy sell. Elvis sells himself.
This movie was a FIRST for Amazon. TV channel AXS is making it's FIRST movie based on, guess who? This time about "What If" like we need more of that? And CMT is releasing their FIRST Two scripted series both include who else? Elvis! Elvis is always THE FIRST! But we fans have to stand up and make sure it's quality! And show them We will NOT buy or SUPPORT anything that makes Elvis look bad, NO MATTER WHO IS SELLING IT!
Michael Shannon would make sense in a Richard Kiel role but our GORGEOUS Elvis, absolutely NOT!
Kiel was an actor in James Bond as well as countless other films. He also played Strongman in Elvis' 1964 film, Roustabout. He died in 2014.
I don't like who they cast as Elvis but what incensed me most was that Elvis was THE joke of the film. And that I know how proud Elvis was of this historical day and now it's being described as INSANE, RIDICULOUS, BIZARRE, CRAZY and WEIRD. It just broke my heart. And $ell Out even said he couldn't sit next to Elvis and watch this film. That right there says it all. This would hurt Elvis so very much especially from a friend. TRAGIC! Below is my final thought on this film, those who SOLD OUT Elvis, The media and those who mocked Elvis.
