Millie Kirkham passes Away

Nashville native Millie Kirkham, whose sky-high iconic soprano helped define Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas" and a number of other classic '50s, '60s and '70s recordings, has died. Kirkham reportedly passed away in Nashville on Sunday after suffering a stroke last week. She was 91. Kirkham was born Mildred Eakes in Hermitage, Tenn., in 1923 and grew up in nearby Donelson. She started her career singing in the National Life and Accident Insurance Girls' Glee Club before becoming a regular performer on WSM broadcasts, including Sunday Down South, working under WSM-AM programming director and Tree Publishing (later Sony/ATV Music Publishing) founder Jack Stapp. She was married to drummer Doug Kirkham, who died in 1986. Singing as a sort of unofficial fifth member of The Jordanaires, Kirkham didn't just lead the "whoo-ooh-oohs" on "Blue Christmas," her first session with Elvis in 1957 — she came up with the part. As the story g...
Streisand and Elvis Duet- Seriously?

For the life of me I can not figure out why any real Elvis fan would be excited about this. I will NEVER listen to this duet. C'mon guys, you are sell outs! We all know from various sources for MANY years, EP did not like Streisand . Stop drinking the Kool Aid EPE is selling you! Elvis was the King of Rock n Roll not easy listening! A friend of mine recently pointed out how Elvis is now lumped in with Tony Bennett on those late night Time life infomercials. Elvis is becoming irrelevant and WE fans are accepting it! Let's not allow history to be recreated. We want Elvis' legacy to be properly preserved for future generations, don't we? Am I alone here? Geez it's bad enough EPE wants to take your hard earned dollars that you should be putting away for retirement to build their hotel. The rewards you get are laughable. If they sought investors, each would get a percentage of profits. Yet fans investing get what? An advanced offer to give them MORE money. What ...

Sugar Man- Copyright and fraud lawsuit filed against Clarence Avant

Two years after Oscar-winning film, Searching for Sugar Man raised questions about royalties for Sixto Rodriguez , a copyright and fraud lawsuit has been filed against Clarence Avant , who signed the Detroit singer to a record deal more than four decades ago. Rodriguez is not a direct party in the complaint, filed in Detroit federal court by Gomba Music , which is owned by longtime Michigan music executive Harry Balk . But the musician does stand to benefit if Gomba is successful. Speaking with the Detriot Free Press, Avant denied wrongdoing. “I think I’ve been pretty fair to Rodriguez all along,” said Avant, 83. “I wish him nothing but the best, because I think he deserves it. I admire the nerve.” Gomba said it had an exclusive songwriting deal with Rodriguez that was willfully ignored by Avant , whose Los Angeles-based Venture Records released the musician’s “Cold Fact” album in 1970 . Gomba holds songwriting copyrights for those Rodriguez songs, the compla...

On May 7th, 2014 Chip Esten performed a free concert in Washington, D.C., as part of a three day event hosted by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), centered around a critical call-to-action: Leading the Way to a World without Blood Cancers. Spry Living chatted with the Southern heartthrob to learn more about his daughter’s battle with leukemia, working on the set of Nashville and more. SL: What was it like having a young child with cancer? CE: A couple of weeks before Addie’s diagnosis, we had been sitting in a hospital waiting room for an unrelated health issue. There had been a group of pediatric chemo patients sitting in the waiting room with their parents. The children had that distinct chemo “look” about them: they had lost their hair; their faces were swollen. As an actor, what struck me most, however, was that it wasn’t all morose and dramatic. The children were playing with the waiting room toys and books; the parents were casually talking to one another....

ABC's "Nashville" has been renewed. The news was announced by Ben Sherwood, co-president of Disney ABC Television Group, at 11:36 p.m. CT. "Congratz and welcome back for Season 3 to @Nashville_ABC," he tweeted, naming stars Connie Britton, Charles Esten, creator Callie Khouri and "the whole Nashville team and loyal fans." According to a tweet from the show's transmedia producer, Geoffrey Colo, the show will return for a full 22-episode season. "Nashville" had been considered "on the bubble" between renewal and cancellation throughout its second season. The Nielsen company reported that it has averaged 4.5 million viewers in season 2, which is a 9 percent decrease from its first season. But as a musical force and multmedia brand, it has continued to grow. The show released its fourth soundtrack album with Big Machine Records earlier this month, with more than 600,000 total albums sold to date. The top-sellin...
My Baby won't stop my rocking! says Imelda May - VIDEO

“I love my baby, she has changed my whole life, my priority is her,” says May, 39. “Violet is the boss at the moment. She is coming into the Terrible Twos and telling me what to do. But I still want to rock out. I still have my own personality. I’m not going to lose my own self.” Imelda May is no X-Factor poppet, she is a proper musician who has been slogging away since she was a teenager, two decades ago. For years she worked day shifts in a care home and sang in pubs and clubs at night. Now she duets with Bono, swaps baby photos with Sir Elton John and sings for the Queen (drawing salty praise from the Duke of Edinburgh, but we’ll come to that). Why is it all happening for her now? “I don’t know! It’s gone mad. All I can say is I’m working hard.” Read More Here Source - Telegraph
Hank Williams is inspiration for Nashville's Deacon says Chip Esten

The Washington Post's Helena Andrews spoke with 'Nashville' actor, Chip Esten while in town for the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner last Saturday, May 3, 2014. They talked about many topics. But what I found most interesting was that Esten says Hank Williams is his inspiration for his character, Deacon Claybourne . Who is your favorite country music singer? Hank Williams. He just set the template and unfortunately set the template for some of those demons I was talking about, but what he was able to do was to take his pain and put it in a song that can tear you up or it can lift you. It’s hard to get better than Hank. So would you say he was your inspiration for “Deacon”? Hank Williams is absolutely one of the people who inspires the character of Deacon, and not just him, but his songs. Those songs come from a real true place. That’s something about the best of country music, they’re very soul baring. Hank was one of the first to star...
Imelda May talks about performing with back pain

THE Irish Queen of rockabilly, Imelda May, has revealed she performed with excruciating back pain for years – a fact she has kept hidden from the world. At some of her gigs the star would even play with a back-brace hidden under her dress. She told the Sunday Independent: "I had back problems as a kid. Then I fell on my bum at my sister's 50th birthday. I had a collapsed disc. Then I was up to my eyes on some painkillers. I remember once in Spain taking the wrong painkillers," Imelda added. "There is one that you take two of and another painkiller that you take one that is stronger. I got them mixed up and took two of the stronger painkillers. I fell asleep under a bench and I was on stage in half an hour. I was conked out. I was drinking cans of coke and espressos like there was no tomorrow," she laughs. BIM: Recently, it was reported that Lisa Marie Presley had to cancel her tour dates due to back pain. So it seems THE Queen of Rockabilly, Ime...

Patty Hanson, left, and Chip Esten arrive at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel, Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Washington. (Photo by Evan Agostini/ Invision/ AP) ABC's Nashville actor Chip Esten and his wife Patty Hanson attended the White House Correspondents' dinner on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Chip who plays the dreamy Deacon on Nashville is THE break out star of the show. More so than Connie Britton or even the lovely Hayden Panettiere. It's a shame that most publcity photos, CD and DVD covers feature only these women. Nashville is mostly watched by women and we watch for DEACON ! I'd buy ANYTHING with a picture of Deacon on it;) Others who attended the event include Barbara Walters, Brad Paisley and wife Kimberly (who played Teddy's wife on Nashville), Duck Dynasty Willie Robertson, Katie Couric, Jessica Simpson and many more. TMZ is reporting Lisa's doctor ordered her to pull the plug because he fears her condition will worsen with the strain of gyrating on stage -- just like her daddy did. We're told her back problem has been aggravated by non-stop touring since June, 2012. She says she'll reschedule the cancelled concerts for sometime next year. LMP has been quiet on her official twitter, last tweeting in early April about her Japan show. Photo above is of LMP arriving in Japan with her twins. Her official web site also has no official statement as of yet. GET WELL SOON, LMP! You ROCKED in JERSEY!
