BP Fallon performing, I Believe in Elvis Presley on RTE's Imelda May Show
Dublin Live reports Dublin singer Imelda May has said she doesn't know if her RTE music programme will come back this year.
The rockabilly star, who has presented the programme for the past two years, admitted the State broadcaster hasn't approached her about renewal despite high viewing figures.
When asked if RTE had offered her a slot for The Imelda May Show yet, the 41-year-old said: “No, they haven’t.
“They never ask me until the last minute and then it’s panic stations trying to get it organised. I don’t know what the story is.”
The rockabilly star told how she loved helping boost musicians’ careers through the show, adding Irish talent needs to be showcased more.
Imelda added: “[The programme] did very well and the ratings were very good, I’m happy for it.
“A lot of the bands that were on it have done very well, the ones that weren’t well known have done well since.”
With Bruce Springsteen playing in front of more than 160,000 fans in her home town this weekend, Imelda told how she was honoured to support The Boss the last time he performed on Irish shores in 2013.
She said: “I was very lucky – he doesn’t normally have opening bands. It was great to be backstage.
“He’s amazing and a brilliant songwriter. He just turns out song after song.”
The mum of one is working on a new album, teaming up with legendary songwriter T Bone Burnett – Bob Dylan’s long-time collaborator.
She told the Ian Dempsey Show on Today FM: “He’s a great man and a great character. I love his crazy brain.”
Imelda recently laughed off reports U2 frontman Bono helped her through her marriage break-up.
She split from husband Darrel Higham last year and previously said her new record is inspired by her rollercoaster 12 months.
Although Bono may have helped Imelda when it came to her new music, that was as far as his assistance goes. Speaking about the reports, she added: “He mentored me, apparently, through my marriage break-up! He didn’t, for the record.”

SHE may be counting down to B Day, but Dubliner Imelda May showed no sign in Paris last night of putting her feet up just yet. The 37-year-old Liberties singer, who is six months pregnant, performed a full set as part of her Mayhem tour, having played a stormer in prestigious London’s Royal Albert Hall last week. “There’s a little bit more of me tonight,” the singer joked with the audience as she proudly showed off her bump, draped in a figure-hugging, hot-red dress with leopard-print bodice. However, her impending rockabilly baby doesn’t hinder the Dubliner’s performance one iota who was joined on stage throughout by her guitarist husband Darrel Higham. The couple, who are married ten years, announced in February that they are expecting a baby. Apart from a craving for oranges, the Liberty Belle has had a smooth pregnancy and has pledged to continue touring during her pregnancy. She has played dates across the UK in recent weeks with sold out performances in Cardi...
