The rockabilly star, who has presented the programme for the past two years, admitted the State broadcaster hasn't approached her about renewal despite high viewing figures. When asked if RTE had offered her a slot for The Imelda May Show yet, the 41-year-old said: “No, they haven’t. “They never ask me until the last minute and then it’s panic stations trying to get it organised. THE Irish Queen of rockabilly, Imelda May, has revealed she performed with excruciating back pain for years – a fact she has kept hidden from the world. At some of her gigs the star would even play with a back-brace hidden under her dress. She told the Sunday Independent: "I had back problems as a kid. Then I fell on my bum at my sister's 50th birthday. I had a collapsed disc. Then I was up to my eyes on some painkillers. I remember once in Spain taking the wrong painkillers," Imelda added. "There is one that you take two of and another painkiller that you take one that is stronger. I got them mixed up and took two of the stronger painkillers. I fell asleep under a bench and I was on stage in half an hour. I was conked out. I was drinking cans of coke and espressos like there was no tomorrow," she laughs. SHE may be counting down to B Day, but Dubliner Imelda May showed no sign in Paris last night of putting her feet up just yet. The 37-year-old Liberties singer, who is six months pregnant, performed a full set as part of her Mayhem tour, having played a stormer in prestigious London’s Royal Albert Hall last week. “There’s a little bit more of me tonight,” the singer joked with the audience as she proudly showed off her bump, draped in a figure-hugging, hot-red dress with leopard-print bodice. Dublin's distinctive rockabilly singer Imelda May has become the new face of the embattled credit union sector in Ireland. Herself a longtime member of a credit union, May is fronting a new ad campaign due to start shortly on TV and radio. Her father Tony, a former credit union volunteer, also features in one of the 30-second TV adverts. Mandy Johnston, the Irish League of Credit Unions' Head of Communications said: “We are delighted to have Imelda on board. Imelda and her family have been long involved with the movement and for us represent the very essence of the credit union.” The Irish League of Credit Unions is the representative body for over 494 credit unions, They have a total of three million members. Imelda released this statement: Imelda May and her husband Darrel Higham are very proud and delighted to announce that they are expecting their first child in August this year. Imelda says “I’m very happy, healthy and feeling great. I’m just over three months pregnant now and am enjoying every second. Darrel and I are over the moon!”
