Five citizens denied entry to the annual candlelight vigil outside Graceland this past August are suing the city and Elvis Presley Enterprises for racial discrimination and civil rights violations. The federal lawsuit was filed Wednesday, Jan. 18, by Aaron Lewis, Keedran Franklin, Earle Fisher, Catherine Lewis and Charline Tramel. It seeks punitive damages of an unspecified amount, compensation for humiliation, embarrassment, emotional distress and mental anguish as well as an injunction barring such behavior in the future. SiriusXM runs Elvis Radio at Graceland. The new film, Elvis and Nixon is a comedy about Elvis meeting Nixon. Many fans are up in arms about this film. Elvis Presley Enterprises has no involvement in the film. Elvis isn't even on the sound track. YET the movie is HEAVILY promoted on Elvis Radio. And the opinion is ONE sided. Maybe they should change the name to Elvis and Nixon The Movie. If I was running the show at EPE, there would be ZERO POINT ZERO promotion of this film. It is negative towards Elvis' image and there is not one dollar coming towards EPE. Promoting this film is throwing $$$ out the window. As long as Elvis Radio on SiriusXM doesn't promote anything else NON EPE, it saddens me they allow this. This HURTS Elvis' brand. But then again when the company releases a comment to the press that Elvis isn't relevant in Vegas anymore, what do you expect? It's like saying our brand is dying. So question is then WHY sign a deal in Vegas at all? ...

UPDATE Electrical Fire at Westgate Las Vegas Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after an electrical fire at the Westgate in May. The fire started at 9:52 p.m. in an electrical room within the 12th floor of the hotel, Clark County Fire Department deputy chief Roy Session said. Five engines, two ladder trucks, two rescues and two battalion chiefs initially responded to the hotel at 3000 Paradise Road, Session said. The fire was contained within the electrical room and quickly extinguished. But even though the blaze was out, smoke had spread throughout the 12th floor. Crews used electrical fans to quickly clear the floor of lingering smoke, and one maintenance worker and one hotel guest were treated for smoke inhalation on scene but not taken to a hospital, Session said. During Elvis Week, I bought this EW 13 t-shirt. It was still in the shopping bag when I unpacked my things in Nashville just after Elvis Week. I took the shirt out to wash and noticed a hole in the back of the shirt. I contacted EPE who immediately responded with apologies. Sadly, they had no more shirts! They were completely SOLD OUT! So now I had to make the choice, return the shirt for a refund or keep the shirt with the hole. I needed to sleep on that one. It was a hard decision because I have every ELVIS WEEK t-shirt since the 10th anniversary. Well, I decided to return it. Maybe it was a sign it was time to stop collecting the shirts. So I went to the post office in Nashville & sent it back to Graceland. And then EPE contacted me, they had gone out of their way to locate another shirt for me. I was beyond happy! After 12 years of being part of the EPE team, the time has unfortunately come for my family and I to venture out and do some other things. When I first arrived here at Graceland, I was (who isn’t?) an Elvis fan but had no idea what the word “fan” really meant. I will always be appreciative of those of you who were here back then and taught me the meaning of the word. Through the years, our numbers have grown as Elvis fans began using social networks to celebrate, discuss, share, and introduce others to Elvis’ legacy. From the Elvis Presley fan clubs to the Elvis Insiders and Facebook “fans,” it’s been an honor to get to be part of something so fun and exciting.
