Linda Thompson on the infamous book, Elvis, What Happened?

In Linda Thompson's new book, A Little Thing Called Life, she talks about that infamous book that many fans feel killed Elvis. Or broke his heart, that is. Whichever, it was for sure the Ultimate betrayal!

Here's Linda's take on the book, Elvis, What Happened? written by 3 former bodyguards Elvis fired.

"After Elvis unceremoniously fired his longtime bodyguards, they decided it might be time to write what some describe as a vengeful book containing information on Elvis' drug use, which they KNEW he wouldn't want them to talk about publicly." says Linda

She continues by saying, " They've since said they published a tell-all because they thought it would help him. And maybe that's the truth."

"Maybe they hoped it would encourage him to realize how out of control he'd gotten and inspire him to take care of himself and stop his self destructive behavior." says Linda

"Instead knowledge that the book was imminent sent Elvis into a spiral. He was hurt, feeling that they'd betrayed him, humiliated that they'd turned on him, embarrassed by what he knew the book would contain, and fearful of how his fans would react."

By the time the book is set to be released, Linda is no longer in Elvis' life but she says she knows how devastated he must have been.

But of all the exaggerations and sensationalism in that book, what bothered Linda the most about Elvis, What Happened? was how they inaccurately told the story of Elvis' visit to the Memphis Funeral home because as they told it, Linda was with Elvis, right by his side in the funeral home. Linda says that is untrue. She actually waited in the car.

She says, " They'd written the scene indicating that I was walking through the funeral home, expressing dismay in the cutest little southern voice, when in fact, no, I absolutely was not inside the funeral home, but rather nervously waiting in the car for the whole macabre incident to be over with."
